The SDI Rescue Diver Course is meticulously crafted to foster the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills, enabling participants to adeptly execute diver rescues and provide crucial first aid during emergencies.
Throughout the course, you'll develop proficiency in various areas, including self-rescue techniques, assisting fellow divers in distress, identifying and calming potential panic situations, administering proper first aid for dive-related injuries, executing effective search patterns, and managing accident scenes. Upon completion of the SDI Rescue Diver Course, you have the option to further your underwater expertise by enrolling in the SDI Master Scuba Diver Development Program or taking the first step into the professional realm by signing up for the SDI Divemaster Course.
What Will I Do During The SDI Rescue Diver Course?
During the SDI Rescue Diver course, students will undergo comprehensive training to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for effective diver rescues, assistance, and administering vital first aid. The course covers a wide range of topics, including the prevention and causes of diving accidents, stress and psychological factors, physical conditioning, equipment, surface drowning syndrome, diving lifesaving, self-rescue techniques, diver assists, surface and underwater rescues, various types of transports, in-water artificial respiration, boat and shore exit techniques, diver first aid, review of oxygen administration, hyperbaric injuries and management, information collection, access to a hyperbaric chamber, accident management, access to emergency transport/assistance, accident reporting, and liability and related legal considerations.
As part of the in-water skills component, students will learn to identify and assist a properly equipped skin or scuba diver experiencing breathing difficulties, tiredness, leg cramps, or early panic symptoms on the surface. They will also practice locating and bringing a simulated unconscious scuba diver from approximately 6 meters/20 feet deep to the surface. Subsequently, students will engage in the simulated in-water rescue breathing and, upon surfacing, transport the unconscious diver over a distance of 50 meters/150 feet to either shore or a boat, with the assistance of one aide, concluding with the safe removal of the diver from the water.
