SDI Deep Diver
SDI Deep Diver
Embarking on SDI's Deep Diver Course, students will dive into an essential exploration for those desiring to venture further and delve into the fascinating world of deep diving. This course is a prerequisite for any diver exploring beyond standard open water limits, uncovering captivating sights like beautiful wall dives, intriguing shipwrecks, and marine critters beyond the shallows.
The course's primary objective is to give students the necessary skills to plan and execute dives surpassing the depth range covered in an SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course, extending beyond 18 meters/60 feet to a maximum depth of 40 meters/130 feet. Upon completion, students can anticipate an elevation in their knowledge, awareness, and comfort level, equipping them for thrilling deep-diving activities.
What Will I Do During The SDI Deep Diver Course?
In the SDI Deep Diver course, students will learn the intricacies of planning and executing dives that extend beyond the depth range covered in an SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course. The course covers diverse topics, including the history of dive tables and computers, the equipment essential for deep diving, and the physics and physiology pertinent to deep diving. Emergency procedures and first aid specific to deep diving are also part of the curriculum.
During the practical in-water sessions, such as Open Water Dive 1, students will meticulously test and check all equipment, including depth gauges, bottom timers/watches, and computers. The dive will involve familiarization with the area, a controlled descent to the planned depth without exceeding pre-planned limits, and adherence to the dive plan at a depth limited to 30 meters/100 feet for the first dive. The session concludes with a safe ascent to a safety stop.
In Open Water Dive 2, students will monitor depth, time, and air consumption, calculating all times on a slate. They will execute a simulated underwater emergency assigned by the instructor, showcasing their ability to respond effectively. The dive plan will then be followed at a depth limited to 40 meters/130 feet, culminating in a safe ascent to a safety stop. Throughout the SDI Deep Diver course, students will gain hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge to enhance their proficiency in the captivating realm of deep diving.
What Scuba Gear Will I Use?
Scuba Training & Service provides you with the core scuba diving equipment for your course; however, we recommend owning your essentials, such as a mask, snorkel, and fins for this level.
For open water dives, we provide divers with a drysuit and undersuit. While we supply the fundamental gear, we recommend that, at minimum, divers have their personal dive computer and torch for an enhanced diving experience.
